akupunktur200Acupuncture is derived from the Latin word "acus" - the needle, point or spot, "pungere" - to prick.

Acupressure literally means point-pressing, composed of the Latin words "acus" and "premere" (to press). The Japanese form of acupressure is called Shiatsu.

Acupuncture, acupressure and the softer modern forms such as electro-acupuncture, laser acupuncture and colour acupuncture - they all work with a very old treatment method native to the eastern Asian region. The basic knowledge was mostly passed on through the path of experience. The decisive factor for us is that every eastern treatment method is closely linked to the spiritual and philosophical ideas of that time.

Acupuncture was first mentioned about 1000 years before Christ as a shamanic means of expelling demons. Subsequently, it found its way into Taoist thinking. Taoism is an ancient Chinese religion that goes back to the philosopher Lao Tse. It contains elements of philosophical Taoism with components of ancient popular religion, such as sorcery, geomancy and alchemy. Tao means: the way of the universe. Tao is the first and most important principle and thus stands even above God Himself. It is the universal cosmic energy behind all natural orders. The two powers of Tao are Yin and Yang. They are opposed to each other and yet they are one. Yin and Yang not only play a major role in Chinese philosophy, they are also assigned to the human body. Just as all of nature swings back and forth between Yin and Yang, it should also happen in the human body. As long as these forces are in balance, qi ("chi" pronounced) can flow. Qi is the energy, the power, the life, the light, the spiritual I that flows out from the infinity of the cosmos and flows through the human body. It is the power without which man cannot live, that is, the divine life force. To maintain it is vital. It is thus stimulated and manipulated through certain practices such as acupressure and acupuncture, for example, which have an influence on life. So it is the manipulation of the divine life force in man. But access to the divine life force in man is only possible through the one who gave it to us, God, Jesus Christ and through His way. This is healing for body, soul and spirit.

Dr. Kropf writes in his book "Alternative Healing Methods": Acupuncture must always be viewed against the spiritual background of Chinese natural philosophies. Every acupuncture treatment consciously or unconsciously strives for the natural harmony of the human soul with the cosmic spirit. Modern resp. scientific acupuncture tries to make the acupuncture phenomena acceptable, i.e. medically accepted, without their connection resp. their roots to the Asian religion. Even if some therapists want to exclude the roots of these treatment methods, he continues, they nevertheless remain existent.

Dr. Samuel Pfeifer quotes the acupuncture specialist Dr. Schnorrenberger in his notes; literally it says: Acupuncture unfolds its amazing effects only if the practitioner follows the original prescriptions, which are based on principles thousands of years old. He goes on to write: Schnorrenberger even rejects a combination of Western diagnosis and Chinese treatment. He advises Western acupuncturists not to attribute their puncture points to Western medicine under any circumstances. Acupuncture must absolutely follow the theories of ancient Chinese medicine if one wants to achieve significant healing results. This view is also held by the modern Taoist philosopher G. Ohsawa. He clearly states that Far Eastern medicine cannot be separated from its philosophical foundations. Dr. Pfeifer writes: For many parapsychologists and spiritualists acupuncture is a proof of their occult teachings and more and more people believe them under the impression of the success stories that are published everywhere. The occult background is played down by many of their present-day followers.

Modern forms of acupuncture are electro-acupuncture according to Voll (EAV) and colour acupuncture. In EAV, homeopathic or antroposophic remedies are usually tested. In colour acupuncture, the acupuncture points on the hands and feet are irradiated with certain colours of visible light. Which colours are suitable for which acupuncture point depends not only on the patient's mental state but also on astrological knowledge, the assignment to the zodiac sign and even the use of gemstones. Also mediumistic abilities, e.g. pendulum dowsing, up to spiritual healing abilities are used. The Asian energy and chakra teachings are closely applied. Acupuncturists also always try to introduce cosmic energy into the body of the patient through the needles.

How should we as Christians, after knowing the backgrounds, judge acupuncture? Are we not unsuspectingly surrendering ourselves to a therapy that manipulates our souls? We must seriously ask ourselves, to whom are we opening our consciousness? Who is gaining access to my innermost being?

It seems obvious to me, writes a Christian doctor, that the spirit of magic and suggestion have a very great influence on the results. The physical treatment cannot be separated from the spiritual worldview and the cosmic occult power, and as we consist of a unity of spirit, soul and body, we are not only physically but also spiritually at the mercy of the influence of this method of therapy. I believe that this reality makes the decision easier for each of us.
