Many people of our time, who in religious disorientation resort to devious Far Eastern ideas, also believe in reincarnation in the sense of transmigration of the soul.
The doctrine of reincarnation describes ideas that the soul of a human being is reborn in a new body after death. This also closely goes hand in hand with the assumption that every human action inevitably has a consequence - the so-called karma, which usually only becomes effective in the next life.

According to the Buddhist view, the cause of rebirths lies in the roots of karma, namely in greed, hatred, lack of knowledge and delusion. The latter consists in the fact that man seeks fulfilment in the realm of the earthly, which inevitably leads to suffering experiences. To escape this suffering, the Buddhist strives for enlightenment, through which he overcomes the delusion and subsequently also greed and hatred and attains the state of nirvana. With that, the cycle of rebirths also ends.

The Apostle Paul clearly rejects such ideas when he writes: "And just as it is appointed for men to die once, and after that comes judgment". (Heb 9:27)." Christian revelation excludes reincarnation and speaks of a perfection which man is called to realise in the course of a single earthly existence (John Paul II).

The belief in reincarnation is in stark contradiction to the Christian conception of man. The body-soul unity of the human being is dissolved in this doctrine and the body is devalued, because it no longer essentially belongs to the human being, since it is replaced again and again in the cycle of rebirths. If everyone who has not fulfilled his allotted work in one's life is given more and more lives, then the process naturally leads to the achievement of the goal for everyone in the end, and Jesus' urgent warnings against eternal perdition would not be taken seriously. The Holy Scripture encourages us to make good use of the one life on earth. In this life, God gives each person all the graces necessary for salvation.
